Our Pastor

Reverend Jim Joyner grew up surrounded by the peach orchards and dairy farms of Central Georgia. He attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta where he studied electrical engineering. During his graduate studies, he discerned that God was calling him into the ministry. After finishing his PhD, he began studies at Candler School of Theology at Emory University where he met his wife, Courtney. During seminary, Jim and Courtney served as pastors in the North Georgia Conference. After completing seminary, they moved to serve in Courtney's home conference of Virginia.

Jim was ordained an Elder at the 2010 Annual Conference. He especially enjoys teaching in the church, working with youth and children, and mission work. Courtney has further discerned God's calling her to specialize in music ministry and is enrolled at Eastern Mennonite University to complete her degree in church music. She currently serves as Minister of Music at New Hope UMC.

Jim and Courtney have two sons, Zach (5) and Hunter (3), and their dog Daytona. Jim enjoys creating by hand, through woodworking, sewing, and cooking. He also loves to spend time outdoors playing with his sons, working in the garden, hiking, riding his bike, and simply marveling at God's creation. The Joyners are excited at the opportunity to continue to serve God and grow in faith with the people of Mt. Clinton.
